What are good sewing machines for beginners?
We have an old machine here but the parts are spread apart so I figure I will buy myself a new one to start.
What are your recommendations for a good sewing machine? Where can I go online to see reviews or what ever I need to do to make an informed purchase?

If you have not done much sewing or do not intend to do a lot of sewing I suggest an inexpensive machine. These can be found at Walmart or another similar department store. Most machines carried in quilt shops are more expensive though of much higher quality.
A good inexpensive machine would be by Singer. Today they come with several types of stitches. I would suggest the barest minimum is a straight stitch and a zig zag stitch. If you intend to make clothes, a button hole stitch is helpful. I recommend Singer over Brother machines. I have had both and the Singer lasts much longer than Brother.
If you prefer a better quality machine, pick up a quilting magazine and check out the websites of machines advertised there. Janome, Pfaff, Babylock, Bernina, Brother, Husqvarna are all machines which can be found online.
Sewing can be a great hobby and a good machine is worth the investment.
